Welcome to the new and improved Jenny and Pearl blog. It’s been a while and we are so excited to share with you all the changes we have in store. I know that January is officially the beginning of the new year but for us, September has always been a time of fresh beginnings and the time to get back into the groove of everyday life, following the unscheduled chaos of summer.
I started Jenny and Pearl on my own, a few years ago. I’ve had fun blogging, selling vintage in the Jenny and Pearl Etsy shop and sharing my life with you. But now, it’s time to kick it up a notch! The biggest change here at J&P is that there are two new members of my team. These girls are creative, stylish, beautiful and full of great ideas. They also happen to be my daughters. Lauren Ashley and Rachel are teaming up with me to bring you everything we love about living the California life and incorporating our love of all things vintage.
Here are the members of the Jenny and Pearl team.
I want to introduce you to my daughter Rachel.
Rachel is the quintessential outdoorsy California girl. As far as she’s concerned, every day should be ‘beach day’. Whether sitting on the beach reading a book, walking down the sand collecting shells, splashing in the waves or taking stunning photos of her favorite spots, she is happiest when she’s surrounded by surf and sand. The only thing that compares to a day at the beach is a day spent on the back of a horse. If Rachel ever got a chance to ride a horse on the beach, I think she would spontaneously combust (is that a word?) from the sheer joy of it all.
Unlike other members of the family (who shall remain nameless), Rachel does NOT like to be the center of attention but would rather let someone else take the spotlight. She has a beautiful soulful voice and spends hours in her room playing the piano and singing just for the sheer love of music. She’s also a key member of our amazing church worship band.
For a girl who gives very little thought to ‘style’, Rachel has loads of it! Rachel’s must haves?
- flip flops
- TOMS shoes
- vintage shorts and shirts
- her vintage Coach bag
- Essie nail polish (Something Blue – discontinued, darn it!)
- Converse shoes
- a Roxy bikini
- Not Your Mother’s sea salt spray
Rachel is my sidekick, my garage sale companion, my movie watching buddy (the sadder, the better) and the one who is always reminding me to ‘eat healthy’. She has a compassion for people and I love her oodles. I know, when you get to know her, you will too.
Hi, this is Lauren Ashley. My mom Karen is creative, funny, compassionate, loyal, and always roots for the underdog. Loves Jesus a lot and has clung to Him through the good and bad.
She wasn’t born in California but a move to Modesto in 1976 made her a California girl through and through.
Karen LOVES all things vintage and is always finding a way to re-use and re-purpose the things she finds at garage sales, thrift stores, estate sales and the dumpster (yes, we are all dumpster divers)!
I think for her it’s about making something beautiful out of what has been discarded. She really does see the beauty in things and also in people.
She’s 100% a people person and can strike up conversation with anyone.
Need to clean the house? Take a chapter from the Karen Rutledge playbook and turn on Janet Jackson and dance around the house while dusting and dancing.
Have to buy groceries at the end of a work day on a super tight budget? Spend the whole time trying to embarrass your child with loud jokes while singing along to Muzak.
Noticing a theme? There’s a lot of dancing and she’s not afraid to look goofy.
Her must haves are:
- Peet’s Coffee
- Burt’s Bees Lip Shimmer in Merlot
- Iced tea
- More coffee
- Funky vintage jewelry
- Rainbow sandals
- Menswear details
To sum it up she’s pretty flippin darn awesome and I love her so much!
Hi, this is Rachel. Who is Lauren Ashley Or?
Some might say she’s a hard working mother of one, while others might say she’s a girl who knows how to throw a party. But to me she is my best friend and sister.
Ashley has a heart for people and loves to give anything she can to those she loves and those who need her help. Ashley’s spent 3 years of her life in Central America where she befriended the locals of Costa Rica, dug wells for impoverished communities in El Salvador, and sang with thousands of Costa Ricans as they were lead to Christ.
Being the oldest sibling and cousin, Ashley loved, and still loves, to be the boss. Whether it be telling her younger cousin to eat the bright blue “candy” (some might call it Miracle Grow), or ordering around people in the office, she is a strong leader with an ambitious heart.
Ashley loved vintage before vintage was cool. Some of her go-tos are:
- a vintage, feminine sun dress
- a splash of neon
- funky earrings found at her favorite thrift store, Lutheran Thrift in Orange
- a cute pair of Jelly sandals
- Flower Kiss Stick high shine lipstick in Rosebud
- Burt’s Bee’s facial cleanings clothes
- and the best accessory of all: Elizabeth Mae, her one year old baby genius
Ashley is my role-model and continues, everyday, to make me proud to call her my sister.
That’s us in a nutshell. We look forward to the weeks ahead as we share more of our likes, loves and passions with you. Can’t get enough Jenny and Pearl? Follow us on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and visit our Etsy shop.
