Here we are – made it through another week and are looking forward to a (somewhat) relaxing weekend. I have to admit, I cheated this week and took my weekend early. Steve and I recently celebrated our 32nd wedding anniversary and we decided to get away for a few days. So we headed out through the morning fog to the desert for a bit of sun and relaxation.
There is just something about the desert that I love. Granted, I’ll take my desert fix off-season when the temperatures are a bit kinder, but there is nothing like the stark beauty of a desert landscape. It’s all angles, cloudless skies, endless landscapes and shadows.
Stunning. Along with the gorgeous landscape, Palm Springs is a mecca of mid-century design. For the MCM fanatic, and crazy vintage lovers like us, there are great examples around every corner.
We’ve been to Palm Springs many times before and have stayed in different condos and hotels but we hit the jackpot on this last trip with our stay at the mid-century gem, The Desert Riviera Hotel. We don’t just love vintage clothing, we love vintage anything! So we wanted to find something with vintage charm but also with all the modern amenities.
I don’t know about you but I’m a Yelp addict. I love trying out local restaurants, stores, businesses, etc. and I’m rarely disappointed if I go with a Yelp find so naturally, that’s where we looked when we were planning our quick little getaway.
The Desert Riviera Hotel is rated 4.5 stars on Yelp and, for the past several years, has ranked in the top 5 small hotels in the U.S. for service on Trip Advisor. From the moment we stepped through the Secret Garden gate until the time we checked out, we were treated like family.
On our arrival, Judy met us in the lobby and offered us an ice cold beer, bottled water or glass of wine. From the big jar of Red Vines in the lobby to the sunscreen and towels by the pool, a wall of DVD’s, books and games available free of charge and even a phone available for free calls, local OR international, Judy and her staff thought of pretty much everything we needed to make our stay comfortable.
Our room was large, clean and decorated with that vintage style that we love! As can happen at any hotel, we had a plumbing issue in our room, but it was dealt with quickly and resolved in no time.
The rooms surround a beautiful courtyard with a pool, lounge chairs, hot tub, misters and umbrella covered tables for an al fresco meal. I could go on and on, but I think you will just have to stay there and discover all the extra perks yourself.
Just a few doors down from this gem is their sister hotel Hotel California, also ranked among the Top Five on Trip Advisor. We went by to check it out and it is every bit as charming as the Desert Riviera, with a rustic vibe. I see another trip to Palm Springs in our future.
Well, we are back to work, busy posting some of the treasures from our latest adventure. Be sure to check the Jenny and Pearl etsy shop often as we are listing daily. And… if you like the pictures of our trip and want to see more like it, plus other little snapshots of the Jenny and Pearl world, check us out on Instagram.
So, whether or not you have a chance to get away this weekend, remember to take the time to appreciate all the beauty in your own little corner of Paradise!
